Our Mission Statement
Through positive relationships we seek to help all children reach their individual potential in all areas of development and learning. The Committee and staff do this by;
- Providing a safe, secure and caring environment.
- Ensuring all children enjoy being part of a happy community group.
- Ensuring each individual is valued through encouragement and praise
Committed to equality and safeguarding children in our care
We operate an inclusive practice and do not discriminate against anyone regardless of their gender, ethnicity, disability or special needs.
The above was adopted by the Committee of Prebend Pre-school on the 23rd May, 2012
Prebend Pre-school started in 1976 moving to our current premises some 25 years ago!
Prebend Pre-school started in 1976 moving to our current premises some 25 years ago! We provide a safe, secure, welcoming and stimulating environment for children aged 2 to 7 (including those in nappies) to learn to socialise and develop emotionally, intellectually and physically through well planned play, working towards the Early Learning Goals within the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
We have seen many changes over the years. In 2009, we opened our Sensory Garden, and in 2013 we extended our outdoor area, which extended existing opportunities for daily learning in the outdoor environment.
New for 2014 were twice weekly Woodland Learning Sessions that take place in the neighbouring Sacrista woodland area and the Reach Project opposite us have invited us to use their new raised beds for planting and pond area for pond dipping.
Managers Sue, Jeannine and Rosanna are aware of the need for extra hours to increase flexibility for parents and carers. The staff and committee at Prebend Pre-school are therefore thrilled to announce that from September 2016 we will now be offering Wraparound Care. Now, with the kind co-operation of the managers of The Methodist Church Hall the setting will be open from 7 30am until 6pm Monday to Friday. Our extended hours (breakfast and after school club) are open to children aged 2 to 7. We are also now opening outside of term time.
We also offer 2 Hour Early Years sessions as an introduction to Pre-school where 2 year olds are welcome to stay and play with or without their carer for a shorter session. We can now offer Short Notice Sessions for children who regularly attend Pre-school as well as Visitor Sessions for children who don’t.
We have indoor and outdoor play areas and a cafe style healthy snack bar. We have different activities everyday including crafts, water, sand, climbing frame, bikes and role play areas for the children to enjoy using their imagination.
At Prebend Pre-school we want all children to enjoy being part of a happy community group in which every individual is valued through encouragement and praise and through positive relationships we seek to help all children reach their individual potential in all areas of their development and learning. Our aims were confirmed by our most recent Ofsted inspection which rated us ‘Good’ across all areas:
‘Children enjoy learning in the welcoming and well-planned environment. They access a range of resources which helps them to develop their skills and prepares them for their future and starting school.’
‘Children develop good self-help skills, confidence and independence particularly while exploring nature in the woodland area. This is because staff patiently encourage them to do things for themselves and provide time for children to practise their skills.
